Product Overview
The latest hardware from MACTek - VIATOR® Bluetooth Interface, sees wireless HART capability for device configuration, but with the added benefit of operation directly in hazardous areas

Features
  • Intrinsically safe HART wireless modem conforming to ATEX directives

  • Battery powered modem (even for hazardous area operation.

  • Simple on/off switch and LED status display elements.

  • Very good performance in conjunction with Open Field Communications PocketHHT platform for Pocket PC.

  • Our Experiences..
Our experiences with the VIATOR® Bluetooth Interface are very positive. We found the following:

  • Good compact size. Fits into a tool bag - not too small to get lost.

  • High quality leads with mini grabber clamps allowing reliable direct field device connection. The lead length is appropriate and the quality of the cables is such that they naturally avoid tangling.

  • Operating elements including the power switch work well. The LED feedback shows the 'Power On' state of the modem but also HART traffic is indicated giving the user useful feedback about the device connection status.

  • Pairing the modem with Pocket PCs and PDA was simple with the tested Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 devices.

  • Ease of use is facilitated by not being tethered to the field device. The VIATOR® Bluetooth Interface can hang on the device or in the terminal rack and the user is free to work within 10m from the connection point. For sites where the field device is situated with uncomfortable access this represents a positive health and safety aspect.

  • Battery life was in excess of 30 hours with discontinuous use.

  • Conclusion
A very good modem featuring the quality we expect from this experienced HART supplier.
